IMA- International Budokan Shotokan Karate was founded in 2001 by Sensei Amadou Niang. Sensei Amadou's vision was to bring traditional karate to everyone by offering karate lessons at local recreation centers throughout the Salt Lake Valley, Utah.

Karate classes and competition training are offered throughout the Salt Lake Valley, at:

  • Redwood Recreation Center in West Valley City, Utah MAIN DOJO
  • Central City Recreation Center in downtown Salt Lake City, Utah
  • Montessori Community School on the east bench of Salt Lake
  • Centenary United Methodist Church in Sugar House, Utah

This provides karate lessons and competition lessons for: Sugar House (Sugarhouse), Millcreek, East Millcreek, Canyon Rim, Cottonwood, Cottonwood West, Cottonwood Heights, Indian Hills, Emigration Canyon, Parleys Canyon, Glendale, The Avenues, Downtown Salt Lake, Murray, Holladay, Cottonwood, West Valley, Salt Lake Valley, Harvard-Yale, Yalecrest, Liberty Park, Mt. Olympus, 9th & 9th, 15th & 15th, University of Utah, East Bench.

At IMA-International Budokan we teach traditional Shotokan based on the philosophies of the founder of Shotokan karate-do, Gichin Funakoshi. Our students learn in a safe and fun environment, and are taught traditional karate with the use of basics (kihon), forms (kata), and sparring (kumite), and achieve great success in local, national, and international karate tournaments.
